Abatement

Before the hazards of asbestos were fully recognised, many builders and property renovators used fire-resistant asbestos in commercial and domestic properties. It is often found in cladding, pipe insulation, boiler rooms and textured coatings for walls and ceilings. Asbestos may have been present in your premises for decades and as long as it stays undisturbed and in good condition it poses little threat. However, there is always the risk that anyone doing work on the building could damage the asbestos and release the dangerous fibres.

The inhalation of asbestos fibres can lead to mesothelioma, asbestosis or lung cancer. In the UK alone asbestos related diseases are estimated to kill up to 3000 people a year. It can take anywhere from 15 to 60 years after first exposure before these serious diseases become apparent. Eurolag Group has achieved National Britannia Safe Contractor Accreditation status and are also members of Constructionline, CHAS, Exor,  ARCA and ACAD.

As a rule, removal will initially be the most expensive method. However, depending on the circumstances, in the long run, asbestos removal can be an economically preferred option. Removal of asbestos is the only permanent solution.

In most cases, where Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM) are removed, an appropriate substitute material must be reinstalled. Fibreglass pipe covering is a widely used product and the costs associated with supplying and installing this new material are relatively low.
